Press Release

Announcing Support for Windows®

ACO PAGER™ centralizes Windows® system, application, and security events on your System i® and performs automation and notification functions.

For Immediate Release

NORTHWEST INDIANA/CHICAGOLAND, June 1999--DDL Systems, Inc. announces support for Windows®. Now, our System i® Systems Management software can monitor Windows® event logs that allows automation of performance, network, system, application, security events and more. With the industry focus on client server and e-business, the Windows® operating system has quickly become another mission-critical component of your datacenter. Managing the complexities of these heterogeneous computer systems are becoming increasingly important to the success of your business.

Windows® event logs are very similar to the system operator message queue on the System i®. They contain important information regarding the health and status of your servers. Specifically, Windows® categorizes the events into three different log files:

• Application logs.
• System logs.
• Security logs.

Each log file contains information similar to that contained within a typical message on the System i (e.g. system name, user, message id, message type, date/time stamp, and message text). You create a new server message queue on the System i® to contain the Windows® event messages and start an ACOPAGER™ Message Monitor for this new message queue. Windows® event log messages are routed to the server message queue and the ACOPAGER™ Message Monitors perform automation activities just like any other monitored message. You can specify action sets for each Windows® server message queue to send pager, e-mail, break messages, and run commands (or action scripts) based on the specific (or generic) characteristics of each event.

Click here (existing customers only) to view online the simple instructions for setting up ACO PAGER™ and Windows® to use the above features. This page requires a user id and password.

System Requirements

Your system may require installation of IBM PTF’s to ensure proper operation of the ACO products. Several important IBM PTF’s are required to properly run certain SQL statements based on the installed version of IBM i 6.1 (and i5/OS). These PTF’s are included in the latest version of the database group PTF for each respective release.
