NORTHWEST INDIANA/CHICAGOLAND,
December 1997--DDL Systems, Inc. announces TCP/IP monitoring from within the ACO
PAGER Message Alert System. The TCP/IP Monitor is a new feature that will
detect the up/down status of devices connected to your TCP/IP network. If your
System i
is connected to the Internet, you can detect the status of virtually any device in the
world. You define the host names to PING, and the TCP/IP Monitor will check the devices at
regular intervals. If a device fails to respond, the TCP/IP Monitor will forward a message
to a monitored message queue. As a result, the Message Monitor will perform the specific
user-defined action such as paging a Network Administrator or notifying an Enterprise
Automation System. |
 |
|
The new TCP/IP monitor is also a
great new way to monitor and perform heart-beat functions from your
System i to
Command/Post. Command/Post resides on a specific IP port and can be PINGed by the
ACO PAGER TCP/IP Monitor. The resulting responses are then sent to a monitored
message queue, and once received, any user-defined action can be performed to communicate
the event to datacenter professionals. Specific TCP system messages (e.g. "TCP3206 -
No response from host COMMANDPOST" or TCP3210 "Response received from host
COMMANDPOST") can be monitored and easily customized to meet your specific
requirements. |
 |
|
The TCP/IP Monitor can be set up
to regularly schedule the PING operations (e.g. every 10 minutes, each hour etc.),
executed by Command/Post automation scripts periodically, or run as a result of receiving
a specific message in the ACO PAGER Message Alert System. In fact, the ACOTCPPING
command can be incorporated into any user command/program or set up in the System i job scheduling system to perform the TCP/IP status check. |
